Couple of beach swimwear photos shot this week. Strange thing was it was sunny, clear, and hot in Portland but about 30 F degrees colder and foggy at the coast. See how the sunset photo has that bank of dark clouds on the horizon? As if it’s not enough of a challenge to shoot swimwear on the Oregon coast! Even in the heart of summer on a nice day there can be weather issues!

Practicing for the Joe McNally visit to Portland this Friday. Shot this photo with a Speedlite and shoot thru umbrella. Okay, okay, McNally probably would have used six or seven hotshoe strobes but you get what I’m saying!

My favorite “swimwear” model! He prefers to swim naked and likes to carry sticks in his mouth and he doesn’t need a MUA to bring out his brown eyes in photos (which are a little out of focus here — I was shooting with the compact G9 and still haven’t quite adapted to changing focus points on that camera).

Self-portrait from a recent camping trip. Yeah, there’s flare (I’m shooting directly into the sun) that I unsuccessfully tried to block with the lid of a pan balanced on the camera lens (see the dark arch at the top of the photo?). It’s tricky to shoot self-portraits since you can’t see what you’re shooting when the shutter clicks!
Anyway, I probably am the only person in Oregon who brings Vogue Paris with me when camping. And the irony is that I was gritty dirty by this point– lots of dust at this campsite. So as I’m looking at photos of the most beautiful people in the world as they wear the cleanest, most beautiful clothing ever, there I am all covered in sweat and dust and grit from camping. Quite the juxtaposition!
