Modeling for Nike

Carly signed with Ryan Artists earlier this year and needed a portfolio. She contacted me and we put together a fitness portfolio. That helped Carly get a casting call for a Nike fashion show.

She went to the casting call but says she wasn’t sure how she did.

“It’s scary because they don’t give you any cues as to whether they like you or not.”

Luckily for Carly, Nike did like her and her agent sent her an email saying she had been selected for the fashion show.

“Oh I was so excited! This was my first booking so I was super thrilled! I was ecstatic. I could not stop smiling. It was super exciting.”

On the day of the fashion show, Carly headed out to the Nike campus in Beaverton. The clothes she was modeling were for the 2016-17 Nike line.

“They had me dress in like nine different outfits and I walked down a runway a few times with nine other girls and then we had to change really, really fast and get into our new outfits and walk down the runway again. We had a choreographer there, we had a fashion designer there, we had a dresser and assistant dresser and a lady who got us lined up. There were so many people involved. It was so fun.”

Carly says though it was a lot of fun, it was also an intense experience.

“All the CEOs and everybody from all divisions all over the world for Nike were there and so it was a huge deal. There were people speaking in like thirty different accents all around. So it was very intense and very, like, ‘You need to nail this. You are showing off the clothes that we want them to like. Because if they don’t like it, it’s back to the drawing board.’ So it was kind of like ‘be on your best game.’ They told us to act like we’re bad ass. They said walk and do your best bitch face, and pretend that you are like the coolest person in this house. So it was intense.”

Carly says she can’t wait to do another Nike show but her real dream is to do more editorial and commercial work for magazines. We recently worked together to capture some more editorial looks for her portfolio. I asked Carly what it’s like working with me.

“You were incredibly helpful. I got so many tips. It was really eye-opening working with you because you know what you’re talking about and you are very good about being honest about what the positives and the negatives are and I mean that in a nice way. I mean it’s nice to have that open honesty.”
