I feel like I finally nailed a perfect lifestyle & headshot combo shot here. Yay! Stir and repeat. Just keep telling that to myself. Lifestyle photos are a lot of fun but tough to pull off well. Shooting candid, perfectly lit photos of people you’ve just recently met is a skill that ironically requires a lot of effort to look effortless.

Loved this recent shoot with Kylie. She was wonderful to work with and lots of energy which I love. She’s with Sports and Lifestyle Unlimited in Portland.

I never know how to headline my photo posts here. I do miss that about working in news. There was always an editor around to lend a hand with ideas.

Anyway, here’s a photo from a recent shoot. With a very confused headline. Kylie was awesome to work with and I’ve working on an initial edit of our shoot and this is a shot that looked easy enough to edit and post.

This photo is from a senior portrait session. I don’t advertise senior shoots so I figure when I get hired for one, they want my fashion and beauty style. Seniors can be a lot of fun but I tend to be selective on the senior shoots I accept.

This was a shoot I’m really glad I accepted. Meg was fantastic to work with. Like this was definitely more of a model port shoot than a senior shoot.

Shot this beauty photo last week and tried to retouch it myself and wasn’t getting the results I wanted. So I turned it over to Pratik @ Solstice Retouch and here’s his version. That guy is an amazing retoucher. The irony is that last weekend I spent nine hours with Pratik at a workshop and he showed every single step he goes through and I took notes non-stop but still can’t even come close to his style — especially for beauty photos. Some work is best left to the experts.

Trying out some retouching techniques from a workshop this weekend by Quavondo and Pratik Naik.

This is my first solo retouching attempt post workshop. It’s a photo I shot back in July. Obviously I have a bit to learn still in terms of retouching. But nine hours of a great workshop with an amazing pro retoucher today definitely will help.

Sometimes you have to bring your own colors to a sunset shoot in Oregon. We get lots of gray, cloud covered sunsets. This one had a little bit of color, but as often happens on the Oregon coast, the sun set behind a marine layer of clouds rather than on the horizon.

I like experimenting with colors and red and black happen to be two of my favs. Black and blue too. They’re combinations that seem to work well together.
