Really cool shoot today. This is just barely a sample of the great photos we got.

And just a side note, got to work with my favorite MUA today. Having a professional hair/makeup artist at a photo shoot makes such a difference in the quality of photos. Make sure the photo shoot you book includes hair/makeup. It’s worth it.

Did a photo shoot this week for a student graduating from the Art Institute of Portland in fashion accessories design. She designed the shoes, handbags, and belts for this shoot. This is a preview — plenty more to come!

And that shot of the model and me was inspired by a self-portrait I saw of Mario Testino in Vogue. Testino is one of the coolest photogs out there (remember him brushing off Anna Wintour in “The September Issue” when she was asking why he didn’t shoot at the Colosseum in Rome?). He even shoots awesome self-portraits!

So a little confession. I absolutely love horses. They’re amazing creatures. Sometimes I wish I had been born in the days before cars (I love cars too, but that’s another post). I’ve photographed both Mac the horse and Hayden before. Hayden is really great on a horse. Lots of skill. And Mac is so sweet. It was awesome to work with them again.

Seems like many of my “published” photos these days end up on the internet and not as print publications. The U.S. Copyright Office considers photographs on the web to be published material so I’m going to do the same and call these digital tearsheets.

Just gives you an idea of how clients can use photos to increase sales and get more customers.

Trying some new pricing ideas. Rather than a shoot fee that includes a certain number of retouched photos, I’m going to give sitting fees a trial run. That way clients can save money and only buy the photos they like from the shoot.

Not sure how this is going to work but I’ll never know unless I try!
