Working on a behind the scenes video from a shoot this past summer. The video was just a personal project captured during a crazy day long shoot in a boutique on NW 23rd in Portland. Hot day, shooting indoors and out, and we shot a LOT (mostly stills)

So anyway, I’m editing the video and adding stills (stills in video? yeah, they’re kind of a pain because thanks to Ken Burns, you can’t really have static stills in video anymore, they have to move around and zoom in and out) and ran across this still that I thought was nice.

I never know how to write my headlines/subject lines for posts so pardon this generic one. The main thing I miss about working a 9-5 job is that I used to have multiple editors available to edit copy (I was a journalist)!

Anyway, here are some pics from a model portfolio shoot last week in southeast Portland. Trying to work more with a single light or natural light because it’s faster and tends to look better. The irony is we also shot a bunch of photos using multiple strobes on a white backdrop but none of those made the model’s final selection list.

Mens fashion series shot recently in downtown Portland. We’ve had amazing weather for December in western Oregon. It’s rained like one day so far this month! Compare that to a usual winter where it rains just about daily.

Anyway, it was cold on this shoot but no rain!

Homerun! Client liked the photos and was worried about someone swiping the idea so we’re under wraps for now. Of course I’ll share the finished project! Yay!

Oh I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am with this shoot. These are the b-roll shots! Like they’re cool but they aren’t what we set out to shoot. Those main pics are going to take some work yet. I have sketches of the original idea and it’s definitely going to involve lots of post work to combine multiple exposures.

Funny story about this photo. This was a shoe shoot and for some of the shoe samples, the client only had one shoe instead of a pair. You have to get creative when shooting one shoe on a model! This was one way we shot it.

** Time for plan B in terms of posting the photo. Good ol’ pbase has been experiencing server problems the last couple of days so I’m switching over to a different hosting site for my blog photos **

This model makes it look like she has her own built-in jet backpack to fly through the air! Seriously, no retouching here other than to remove a couple of outlets on the wall. Nah, not that splotchy patch of light — pic still needs a bit of polishing. But check out the self-propelled jet-pack flying model!

Three from today — not retouched yet. Sometimes I like to post it how it was captured.

It was such a fun shoot. The model is a former professional ballerina so there was so much energy and motion. The goal was to get a series of motion in still form so the final photos will be a LOT more polished. Basically I was firing away at 10 frames/second today to capture a sequence of motion that will be made into a composite but not the way you might be thinking. My strobe lights (a mix of Paul C Buff units) kept up amazingly well. Stay tuned for the final results!
