Oh I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am with this shoot. These are the b-roll shots! Like they’re cool but they aren’t what we set out to shoot. Those main pics are going to take some work yet. I have sketches of the original idea and it’s definitely going to involve lots of post work to combine multiple exposures.

one shoe

model posing on floor with one shoe

Funny story about this photo. This was a shoe shoot and for some of the shoe samples, the client only had one shoe instead of a pair. You have to get creative when shooting one shoe on a model! This was one way we shot it.

** Time for plan B in terms of posting the photo. Good ol’ pbase has been experiencing server problems the last couple of days so I’m switching over to a different hosting site for my blog photos **

personal jet backpack

model leaping looking like she has jet backpack on

This model makes it look like she has her own built-in jet backpack to fly through the air! Seriously, no retouching here other than to remove a couple of outlets on the wall. Nah, not that splotchy patch of light — pic still needs a bit of polishing. But check out the self-propelled jet-pack flying model!

model doing the splits in black boots

Do your shoes let you do this? Maybe it’s time to switch brands!

Ha ha ha – I’m no copywriter, that’s for sure. Just going through photos from today and more than a few are catching my eye! Like this one.

model leaping through air in studio

model kicking leg very high in the air

Three from today — not retouched yet. Sometimes I like to post it how it was captured.

It was such a fun shoot. The model is a former professional ballerina so there was so much energy and motion. The goal was to get a series of motion in still form so the final photos will be a LOT more polished. Basically I was firing away at 10 frames/second today to capture a sequence of motion that will be made into a composite but not the way you might be thinking. My strobe lights (a mix of Paul C Buff units) kept up amazingly well. Stay tuned for the final results!

Very rough edit I pulled from a shoot of stylish womens laptop and ipad bags today. Lots more where this came from but not tonight! lol Gonna actually call it quits before 10 p.m. tonight. Normally I work until around midnight. Aaahhh, the glamorous life of a photographer!

So this was a really great shoot and this is just a sneak preview. I had four different looks to shoot with and afternoon start and dusk approaching fast. This was my initial approach to at least grabbing a decent shot of every bag.

model under pier at beach

A couple of years ago, I made a trip to Miami just to explore and check out the scene. I did a couple of photo shoots and drove out to Key West and all that. This past year, I decided to delve deeper into south Florida and I’ve made three more trips so far. It’s a fascinating place. A lot of weirdos (like Oregon!) but much warmer. LOL

Seriously, each trip has been better than the last and I’ve been absolutely lucky by meeting some of the nicest people. It’s crazy but I have this really strange knack for going to different places and meeting really cool people. On this trip, Selena, Sonny, Ewa, Jonathan, and Devin — all of you are so great in really unique ways. Thank you for working with me.

My biggest disappointment on this last trip to Miami was I had a pair of twins lined up for a sunrise shoot. Confirmed a coffee meeting to chat details and went the the meeting in SoBe. No show. Texted one twin. Got a reply they thought meeting was next day. That was the last I heard from them.

So yeah, that was a bummer. Luckily a model I had shot earlier in the week was available for a sunrise shoot that day. Thank you Ewa for saving the sunrise that day!

We tried to go to Crandon Park south of Miami but encountered the a total dick security guard. Turns out it’s easy to sneak into the park before it opens (@ sunrise) but there’s no where to park. Park for just a moment and a rent-a-cop, er, county ‘park ranger’ rolls up and starts writing a parking ticket. That was a bit of a buzz kill too since the rental car company had made me sign a waiver that I’d pay all parking tickets. I pleaded “tourist” with the rent-a-cop, but no kidding, he didn’t believe me. If he heard my attempt at spanish, he would have believed I wasn’t from Miami.

Anyway, the model in this photo wasn’t involved in any of that. She’s someone I saw on FB through a mutual friend. I liked her look so contacted her and we arranged a shoot. Sometimes rollin’ the dice works out!

airplane edit

Monday, October 24th, 2011

mens fashion photo outdoors at city park

Edited this on an airplane where I always seem to be working behind someone with a reclined seat. I wish they offered a computer work section on planes where people were forbidden to tip back their seats.

Oh, and what did I have to edit? There was a weird pant lining hanging down on both ankles that was unintended. It’s still a little jagged and will likely need a quick polish with the stylus and tablet. This was a test shot and the stylist fixed the lining when we were actually shooting. But as often happens, the test shot was the best shot aside from the pants at the cuff. Best expression and all that.
