Moontess photo shoot: rough cutTuesday, January 10th, 2012
Trying to compress a nine hour photo shoot into a three minute video is a tough task! This is a very rough cut. Ironically I was editing it for a while with no sound and then I heard “Comic Book Whore” by Jane Jensen on Pandora. It was exactly the pace and sound I wanted for this. Waiting to hear back if I can even use the music in the final cut. This version is rough and just for fun.
Oh and just to be clear, the model, Nicole, is not an actual comic book whore to my knowledge. I’m guessing that’s someone who is really, really into comic books.
Anyway, one more note. Editing video is a pain in the ass! I guess it probably gets better with time. But wow. Editing three minutes of video (even roughly) takes days!

Another swimwear photo of Ewa, this one shot at sunset in Miami. Worked solo on this one so the lighting is a bare reflector on a strobe (softboxes tend to catch the wind and blow over when I’m solo)

Игра вокруг с Google Translate и опробовать Россия в честь русского Ewa модели.
This girl is Russian but really she speaks great English so no need for translation. She really delivered in terms of swimwear photos too. And she’s a super nice girl too.
I know – I mention that a lot– models being nice. But the best models are almost always really nice too. Least in my experience. I can literally think of one girl I’ve shot who was a super bitch who still took great photos, all the rest were nice. I’m just lucky I guess.

It’s been cold but dry in the Pacific Northwest this past couple of weeks. The dry part is the amazing thing this time of year! It usually rains all the time in winter here.
This photo of course was not shot in the northwest in the winter. Try south Florida in October. I like shooting someplace warm in fall. Gives me a stash of photos to work on over the winter. So far Las Vegas and Miami are my favorite spots for that.

2012 Swimwear Calendar PreviewMonday, December 5th, 2011
Putting finishing touches on my 2012 Swimwear Calendar today. Will post more previews and info later this week. I’m super excited for this. I made my first swimwear calendar last year and it was basically for me ’cause I got a really late start on it (I waited until January). I used that experience to create a really nice calendar this year — and best of all — it will be available in time for the holidays.
I have a pre-production proof of the calendar in hand and it’s really cool. The photo above is the cover and the calendar features 13 of my favorite swimwear photos I shot this year.
So stay tuned for complete details this week!

The Sonny photo marathon continues! Here’s another sunrise shot. I love shoots like this one that seem to offer up a new photo every time they get looked over. Okay, that may not make sense but what I mean is sometimes it takes a little distance from a shoot to really find the gems. At least for me. Gee, that really clears things up, right? Anyway, the photo here is from a shoot a month ago on a beach in south Florida.
Lil’ tangent — I’m up to 1535 followers on my g+. Join in! Seriously, I like how g+ is set up and it’s an easy and fast way to share photos. Oh and that’s nearly three times the number of followers I have on FB! Though I still feel like people check FB more frequently than g+ … least for now!

Here’s a brief photo tribute to a Ft. Lauderdale model I shot last month. She was a blast to work with. A really fun personality and she brought lots of cool swimsuit options! And she brought a friend who was actually helpful (he helped haul gear) and supportive of her modeling (ie he wasn’t her boyfriend).
It’s fine if models have boyfriends or husbands, but BFs on a shoot just don’t seem to mix well. I’ve worked with cool BF’s though, so there are exceptions to the rule. Chances are you’re not one of them. lol
In all seriousness, you’ll always get better photos during a shoot if you bring a supportive friend and not a boyfriend. That’s been my experience anyway.

We had a stormy morning by Florida standards for this shoot. Lots of wind and lots of dark clouds and rougher than normal surf. All that wind is making for a lot of stray hairs to retouch out!
