“Campfires are like Indian television,” someone once told me. And indeed, campfires can be hypnotic. I personally love their smell a lot more than the smell of a television though!
Had the chance to smell my first campfire of the season recently while scoring one of the few rainfree nights in the last month and half in western Oregon. No kidding — there’s been nearly 8 inches of rain in Portland since the beginning of May!

Here’s a self-portrait shot with my favorite black lab ever. Shot @ f2.8 with the 70-200 — not recommended for self-timer shots since the DOF is unforgiving. Unless you have a dog who will remain still while you focus off him. This particular dog holds a point like you can’t believe for a black lab– no surprise he can hold still for photos!
I’m making an effort to simply shoot for fun these days. Strange as it sounds, sometimes when you go pro photographer, you only shoot photos for money. That’s not always best for growing as a photographer, of course. Thus my effort to shoot non-commercial pics occasionally!
