I’m a big fan of twitter. When someone follows me, the first thing I do is check their profile to see if there’s useful content and to see if I want to follow them.
So yesterday I clicked on a twitter profile of someone who had just started following me. The profile had no bio, no tweets, no followers, and was only following one person — me! Hey Andrew Gosling — there’s tons of GREAT info on twitter. But you won’t find most of it if you only follow one person. Besides, it’s a little creepy when you have no bio, no links, no tweets, and I’m the only person you follow.
Anyway, check out my twitter for yourself. And don’t worry– I won’t blog about you unless I’m the only person you follow and you have no tweets, bio, or links!

Hi Pete,
some of us are not quite as up on the social media front as you!
I was re-reading your article “5 Ways To Improve Your Twitter Account”, clicked through to read your bio on twitter, then clicked to create an account. Twitter automatically followed you for me without me asking it to.
Now I just need to set up the rest of my details…
Andrew:
Thanks for the comment. The thing with twitter is you’ll get the most out of it by following more than one person. Also, it only takes a second or two to add a link in your profile — which is also a SEO benefit since it will help drive people to your website. And– as a photographer — you must have a decent photo or two to personalize the account, right?
Sorry to single you out but you have to admit from my perspective it’s kind of odd when someone with no tweets, no bio, and no links starts following me but no one else on twitter. Again, you’ll get the most out of twitter by following more than one person and at least letting people know a little bit about your business in case they want to follow you.
Also, did you create an email account for me (petespringer@inspirationphotography.co.uk)? That’s the email listed on your comment here. Not that you asked, but in the photography biz, you want to get YOUR name out there. The internet is one of the best marketing tools available– might as well take advantage of it, right?
Hi Pete,
SEO was one of the main reasons for starting on twitter. I’m just taking a while to get my account ‘fleshed out’.
As for the email address – I always give a site-specific, unique email address anywhere on the web. Two reasons: I can easily set up a rule to file it automatically, saving me time, and if the site gets hacked and I get loads of spam (which has happened), I can change the rule to immediately delete all the email (and resign up later with a different address when it’s safe).
Andrew
I appreciate the candor, Andrew. Didn’t mean to call you out on twitter. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure if you were a real person!
For email on blog posts, I go with a free gmail account. The spam filter is excellent and the bonus is that with gmail, you can create a google profile linking to your website, twitter, FB, etc — which will boost your SEO ratings too. You can keep the personalized emails for clients and go with the gmail for SEO and people you already know.
Google LOVES links to your site. That’s one reason to have a Twitter account. Also, google seems to be picking up on twitter posts more than other social networking (specifically facebook) so make sure to use lots of keywords in your twitter posts. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work. And again, my apologies for singling you out on the twitter thing. I’m glad to learn you’re a real person (and a photographer) at that!
